Bonnie Tyler, most known for her eighties classic "Total Eclipse of the Heart" will be singing the UK's entry for the 58th Eurovision Song Contest this year. The song, "Believe in Me" is a power ballard written by American songwriter Desmond Child with British songwriters Lauren Christy and Christopher Braide.
Bonnie in a statement said "I am truly honoured and delighted to be able to represent my country at Eurovision, and especially with such a fabulous song".
Desmond Child has worked with Bonnie Tyler throught her career, and has also written songs for bands Bon Jovi and Kiss.
Bonnie Tyler is of Welsh origin. The last Welsh act to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest was James Fox in 2004, when he came 16th. The last time the UK won the Eurovision was in 1997 with Katrina and the Waves with "Love Shine a Light". Since then, the UK hasn't faired well, with last year's entry by Engelbert Humperdink finishing second from bottom with a mere 12 points.
Bonnie, who is 61, will be hoping to do better with this song. However, in recent years, the chances of the UK doing well has always seen to be pointless with many European countries voting for their neighbours of allies.
The UK will automatically go through to the final as along with France and Germany as the major financial backers of Eurovision.
